The insecurity and unemployment are real but solution is good parenting, Education & proper monitoring of our  children for peace to reign.

To enjoy peace ,we must ensure reduction in injustice within the society. May God continue to give the Sanyaolu Family the  fortitude to bear the loss. It is my pleasure to be here in the vicinity of professionals.

Surv. (DR) Matthew O. Ibitoye ( The President Of Nigerian Institution Of Surveyors) in his remarks expressed gratitude, honour and privileged to be present at the 2023 Sanyaolu Memorial Lecture.

He addressed the twin menaces issues currently facing in the country which are Unemployment & Insecurity.

He says, To overcome these issues we need to involve in below outlined:

-Mentorship & Skill Development

– Advocacy for good governance & accountability

– Research & Survey

– Public Engagement – Engage the policy makers , law makers etc

In Furtherance,  We have the obligations to put in our profession in solving the manaces so as to fight together as one family in making a difference.

The Guest Speaker in the presence of Prof. Taiwo Edun ( Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye Ogun State ) in his speech make some recommendations in combatting menaces of Unemployment & Insecurity in the society which are listed below:

– Combating the Twin menaces requires both short-term & Long -term measures.

Short-term measures should be targeted in fighting the current insecurity to standstill while the long-term measures aimed at gainfully engaging the youths to make crime less attractive to them. The elites have huge roles to play in both approaches.

The short term measures is to mount pressure on government to name the known sponsors of terrorism and insurgency then bring them to book.

Another way is to work out synergy among security agencies to eradicate lack of coordination & unhealthy rivalry in their operation.

Expeditiously try and punish the insurgents and terrorists who have been arrested instead of keeping them in custody.

Long term measures include Education has the better safeguard of liberty than standing army that is Nigerian Elites should champion the call of government at all levels to ensure equitable quality of education and promote lifelong opportunities for all by the year 2030.

Also, To increase the federal government budget on education progressively paltry from 8.8% in 2023 to 15 – 20% as recommended by UNESCO.

All Entrepreneurship and Empowerment Schemes should be synchronized with the TVET and located in 500 TVET Institutions across the nation to make them cost – effective and result – oriented.
